A San Diego nonprofit that promotes the healing power of music will hold a concert on Saturday, April 30 to benefit the Music Therapy Program at Rady Children’s Hospital.
The directory child’s heart concert of resounding joy at 7:30 p.m. at the Contrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla will present a range of musical genres from classical to pop, a cappella and instrumental.
All proceeds go to the Ariana Miller Healing Notes Music Therapy Program to provide free music therapy to children in San Diego when they are hospitalized or homebound due to illness or injury.
Ariana Miller has battled congenital heart disease, including six open-heart surgeries. While waiting for a heart transplant, the only bright spot of her week was a visit from her music therapist.
Sadly, Ariana passed away at the age of 13, but her parents helped bring music therapy to thousands of other children through the program that bears her name.
According to Rachel Gant, director of the Healing Notes program, “there is something special about the way music connects with children when they are in a difficult and stressful situation.”
Tickets for the benefit concert can be bought online.
