Song Joong-ki Shares Thoughts on ‘Squid Game’ Global Popularity


South Korean actor Song Joong-ki shared his thoughts on the success of Netflix’s hit series Squid game.

During a “town hall” segment at the 26th Busan International Film Festival, Song spoke about the survival series and its international popularity. According to My daily life, the actor said he noticed that foreigners liked the series when he traveled abroad to shoot an upcoming project in Europe.

“Last week I went abroad to film for Bogota. I have been to an island in Europe, but the plane to the island was small. Around me, three strangers were downloading and watching Squid game,” say it Vincenzo actor, translated by Koreaboo.

Song added that he had seen “many” locals watching the series throughout his stay on the island. The actor expressed his enthusiasm for the growing popularity of Korean content, nodding to the success of his film. Space sweepers, which was released on Netflix earlier this year in February.

“At the time Space sweepers ranked in Netflix’s Top 10, I have read articles on accomplishment. But to be honest, I couldn’t really believe that he had really succeeded all over the world, ”he revealed.

“Also, I was worried that some of the Korean cultural feelings in the film might not be conveyed to international viewers. So I felt very proud when I saw with my own eyes that these locals were actually watching and renting Korean content,” Song added.

As a leading player in the industry, Song added that the growing popularity of Korean television and cinema has given him a greater sense of responsibility. “Not only did I feel extremely happy, but I also felt responsible for continuing to do good shows,” he shared.
