How do you solve a problem like Maria? Honestly, I have NO idea, but I was certainly happy to share a conversation with Jason crespin of the Petit Théâtre Amarillo on the last show on stage, The sound of music. Learn more about the show: The hills are alive at Amarillo Little Theater as we are so excited to present the classic musical The Sound of Music as the second Mainstage production for the 2021-22 season. Featuring a huge cast of 48 talented artists, including 15 Academy students, this show is our production in collaboration with the Academy and will delight audiences of all ages.

The Sound of Music, the latest collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, is considered the world’s most beloved musical. The inspiring story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows a spirited premise that serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the house. But as the forces of Nazism seize Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision. Endowed with a treasure of darlings

songs including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi”, “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music has captured the hearts of audiences around the world , winning five Tony Awards and five Oscars.

ALT has assembled a wonderful cast for this production. Making her ALT debut, Hunter Lee stars as Maria. ALT veterans Jacob Miller and Christy Corder play Captain von Trapp and Mother Abbess respectively. The artistic director and choreographer of this production is Jason Crespin with the musical direction of Jennifer Akins. Carla Fristoe is assistant director, Velvet Knight is production assistant and Madeleine Nelson is assistant choreographer.
