Richard Kutz obituary (2021) – Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania


Richard B. Kutz, 69, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Tuesday September 21, 2021 at Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing, Wilkes-Barre.

Born May 22, 1952 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Bernard and Helen Puskar Kutz. Richard graduated from Meyers High School. He then graduated from Wilkes University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1974, and a Masters of Business Administration in 1985.

Richard was CEO of the Weinberg regional food bank in Wilkes-Barre for 30 years. He worked tirelessly to ensure that families and children in our community did not go hungry. Rich really exemplified the CEO’s motto, “People help people”. Previously, he worked for the Pomeroy department store as director of human resources for 19 years. Rich has also volunteered for other community organizations. Noteworthy is his annual commitment to Valley Santa and making sure children across the valley have Christmas presents! He was a letter writer, buyer and member of the Valley Santa finance committee. He was also a staunch volunteer for the First Presbyterian Church’s annual Christmas Together event and chairman of the board of Hunger-Free Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandnephew, Peter C. Long.

His brothers, Jerome J. Kutz and his wife, Gloria, of Plains Township, survive; and Carl Kutz, Wilkes-Barre; nieces, Susan Kutz Long, Pittston; Jennifer Kutz Tinner and her husband, Jeff, Dallas; grandnephews, Eric Long and Kyle Long; aunt, Bernadine Kozloski, Pittston; and uncles, John Puskar, Wilkes-Barre and Frank Montedonico, Rotonda West, Florida.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at the SJ Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, followed by Christian funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Wilkes-Barre . Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Lehman Township. Family and friends can call 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8:15 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday from SJ Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.
