Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced new measures to tackle the COVID-19 Delta variant among New Yorkers.

Speaking at the University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine, the governor announced that she will work with communities, the state health department and the Public Health and Health Planning Council in the coming days to put in place of mandatory weekly COVID-19 tests for the unvaccinated public. and charter school employees, and establish a vaccination requirement for all staff in state-regulated facilities and assembly places.

“Last year every community in the state came together in a deep way to say, ‘we can do this,'” Hochul said. “This war is not over and the Delta variant is a serious threat, especially for people who are still unvaccinated. We all need to remain vigilant to protect each other – and that means coming to get your vaccine. and your reminder, wear masks in indoor spaces and apply basic safety precautions that we all know by now. ”

The governor also announced that $ 65 million will be made available to local state health departments to support the rapid and reliable distribution of reminders.
