After a long pandemic-induced hiatus, the Jefferson Township Community Chorus will begin its fall / winter rehearsal schedule on Tuesday, September 14, 7:30 to 9 p.m., in the Jefferson Township High School Group Hall, 1010 Weldon Road, Milton / Oak Ridge.
The choir is sponsored by the Jefferson Arts Committee. James Wynne is the conductor / accompanist.
The choir will prepare for its “Christmas in the village” concert scheduled for Saturday 4 December. Rehearsals will continue on Tuesdays at the same time and in the same location.
September is the month for open choir memberships. Adults, college students and high school students are welcome to sit or sing along during a September rehearsal with no obligation to join.
Membership is open to all residents of the Township of Jefferson and surrounding communities. Auditions or previous singing experience are not required. Sopranos, violas, tenors and basses are welcome.
Those who enjoy singing a variety of musical styles are encouraged to join in September for the fall-winter season and February for the winter-spring season.
Membership for fall-winter is $ 30 and must be paid by October 15th. Membership fees help cover operating expenses, primarily the purchase of high quality copyrighted music and director compensation. Membership fees are $ 30 from February to June for the winter-spring season.
The choir also presents a spring concert at a local church and is often involved in other special events and / or fundraisers. Over the years, they have performed traditional folk songs, tunes from Broadway shows, sacred music, ethnic tunes, popular songs, and classical music.
An educator and musician
Wynne retired in 2018 as Choir Music Director and Music Technology Instructor at Jefferson Township High School, where he had worked since 1983. He is Music Director and Organist at Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Mendham and Coordinator and Clinician from music technology to the New Jersey Music Educators in service.
A highly respected educator and musician, Wynne received her BA in Music Education from Montclair State, her Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision from William Paterson University, her graduate studies in Music Performance-Major from the Mason Gross School of the Rutgers Arts and Graduate Studies in Music Education from Boston University.
Wynne is eager to resume her work with the Jefferson Township Community Chorus. He is welcoming back old members and wants to attract new members who enjoy singing, are looking for a place to sing with others, like to learn new musical arrangements and want to be entertained in public.

Founded in 2001, the Jefferson Township Community Chorus is one of several performing arts groups under the auspices of the Jefferson Arts Committee.
The choir has drawn adults and students as well as alumni from Jefferson Township High School to its ranks over the years. Some members belong to church choirs and just want to get into more secular music, while most just like to sing. For a brief history, visit jeffersonarts.org/chorus_about.html.
