Half Flamenco at the Bridport Arts Center

AN EVOCATIVE new show featuring soulful flamenco dancing and soulful music returns to a stage in Bridport.

International flamenco company Mi Flamenco will present a new production Echoes at the Bridport Arts Center on Thursday June 9th.

The last time Mi Flamenco performed at the arts center was in 2017 to a sold-out audience.

This new production took a long time to come – mainly because of the Covid – which forced the company to postpone this tour four times.

Blending personal reflections on Spain with the power and poise of flamenco, these talented dancers and musicians give audiences a very special insight through the artistic lens of Mi Flamenco.

Mi Flamenco is produced and directed by husband and wife team Ester and Uri Tal. Ester, the lead dancer and artistic director, was born in Dorset and spent 14 years in Spain training and working as a flamenco dancer.

Uri is the guitarist, whose original musical compositions blend with more traditional forms to make this show a real treat for music lovers everywhere. Ester and Uri bring other artists of the highest caliber with them.

Mi Flamenco (literally My Flamenco) has at its heart the gypsy singing of Jerez, the cradle of flamenco singing. Their singing power, character Luis El Mono, is “Jerez” through and through:

Cellist Nick Squires joins them on tour to add otherworldly depth to this striking production.

Ester said: “It’s a bit new for us. This is our first multimedia production, with moving and still images to enhance the mood of the music and dance and hopefully bring the audience closer to our own personal feelings and perspectives on Spain and the flamenco. After training and working as a flamenco dancer in Spain for 14 years, I moved to Dorset, so opening this brand new show here is truly amazing.

Mi Flamenco is coming to town on Thursday, June 9. Tickets cost £16.50. Call the arts center box office on 01308 424901 or visit www.bridport-arts.com
