Dante Basco, Prince Zuko’s voice actor in Avatar: The Last Airbender, shared anecdotes about his pre-ATLA role in A wacky movie in a recent clip from TikTok. The actor voiced the prince of the mighty Fire Nation turned friend of Aang, the last Avatar of the Nickelodeon animated television series which ran from 2005 to 2008. Basco also returned to the world of ATLA in The legend of Korra, voicing General Iroh II, Zuko’s grandson.
In Avatar: The last airbender, Zuko starts off as a bitter, aggressive and tragic young man, desperately trying to gain the approval of his father Fire Lord Ozai after his exile. He begins the series as an antagonist of Aang and Team Avatar, but grows up a better man on his journey, joining the team himself to defeat his father. Basco recently revisited the series while hosting Avatar: brave the elements, a podcast where he and Janet Varney from The Legend of Korra analyze the series episode by episode and share behind-the-scenes facts. However, Basco also shared a story before being cast as Zuko.
On TikTok, Basco a duet video in which a fan shared anecdotes about his early career as a voice actor. In the original video, fan Alectrode stitched a video from the TikToker comic book Justin Mousseau asking his fans to share trivia about the movies they always tell others. Aelectrode stitched the video with a clip of A wacky movie where Basco voiced a nerd character, before pointing out the actor. Basco duet the clip, synchronizing his character’s line while nodding his head to confirm the trivia.
Basco starred in a number of Disney productions before joining ATLA, expressing additional roles in A crazy movie, as well as guest roles in Kim possible and the first season of the recently relaunched The proud family. Basco also voiced lead character Jake Long in American Dragon: Jake Long, an animated series that follows a half-human, half-dragon boy balancing his ordinary life with the protection of the magical creatures living in New York City.
