A music streaming platform, Spotify has released its weekly global charts which normally reveal a list of Nigerian artists, songs and albums that topped its platform during the week.
The music platform which is fast becoming a destination for music lovers in Africa is ranked among the top music listening and streaming platforms for Nigerians with over 170 million subscribers and 80 million tracks.
Recently, the platform ranked Nigeria as the second country with the most music streams after Pakistan. Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, speaking with the media in Lagos, said artists such as WizKid, Burna Boy, Tems and Mr. Eazi ranked among the top five artists locals exported from Nigeria on Spotify,
Asake and Olamide’s “Omo Ope (feat. Olamide)” has been on Nigeria’s top songs list for the longest time, at 196 days in a row, according to the report released this week. While Burna Boy has been on Top Artists Nigeria the longest at 29 consecutive weeks.
For top songs, Burna Boy has the most spots on Top Songs Nigeria. “Last Last” is the highest at No. 4 while DJ Khaled’s latest song “GOD DID” is the highest new entry on Top Albums Nigeria at No. 3.

Top songs list
In Nigeria’s Top Songs, Asake’s “Terminator” ranks number one for the first week of September. The song was written by Asake who is quickly becoming a recurring name in the Nigerian music industry with major hits like “Omo Ope”, “Sungba” and “Trabaye”.
Rounding out the top five songs on the list are “Bandana” by Fireboy and Asake, “Electricity” by Pheelz feat. Davido, “Call of Duty” by Zinoleesky and “Many Ways” by BNXN and Wizkid.

For Top Artist of the Week, Burna Boy continues to rise above the rest, extending his streak to the 29th consecutive week on the Top Artists Nigeria chart. Burna Boy’s single “Last Last” continues to gain traction around the world, breaking the record for the most spots on top songs.
Other artists who make up Spotify Nigeria’s top 5 artists list include BNXN fka, Buju, Asake, DJ Khaled and Fireboy DML.
Top Album List on Spotify
WizKid’s “Made In Lagos: Deluxe Edition” has been on Top Albums Nigeria the longest, at 29 consecutive weeks. A major highlight is DJ Khaled’s “KHALED KHALED” which is the biggest winner on Top Albums Nigeria, up 62 spots to 51st.
However, for the first week of September, Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” remains the top album and is followed by BNXN fka’s “Bad Since ’97” as Buju.
Others in the top five albums are DJ Khaled’s latest album “GOD DID” which debuts at number 3, followed by Fireboy’s “Playboy” and “Omah Lay’s Boy Alone”.
