An afternoon of music with Sara Vokes

The church presents

Songs of life, love and light

An afternoon of music with Sara Vokes on Sunday June 26 at 2 p.m.

Everyone loves a good story. For countless millennia, human beings have shared stories to amuse, educate and evoke sometimes powerful emotions. In addition to speech, human stories can now be told in writing, in still and moving images, and in music.

Sara Vokes as a singer/songwriter, elicits a wide range of genuine emotions, some painful and some uplifting. She draws her original stories from many influences – her youth in western and central New York with a very large extended family, her marriage, her travels across America, her faith and her journey to find serenity and joy despite sometimes painful past experiences. She seeks in her music to touch familiar chords and to bring out a strong feeling of sharing the human and spiritual condition. As such, she is willing to “expose her heart” and be vulnerable to her audience.

Sara is currently Music Director of the Ridgebury Meetinghouse, where she performs and sings at the weekly services of the Ridgebury Congregational Church. She is thrilled to be part of the ongoing initiatives at Meetinghouse and her music is a key part of the artistic element of Meetinghouse’s current priorities. She also actively teaches music (voice and piano) as well as speaking and presentation skills. She started out in musical theater then moved on to opera at Ithaca College and earned her master’s degree in vocal performance at the University of Illinois. She characterizes her musical style as a mix of classical and contemporary/folk, with a touch of jazz in the mix.
